Vari-Weight
Start customizing the perfect protection.
Offering comfort, cost-effectiveness, and an easy on-and-off design, the Vari-Weight is our most popular radiation protection apron style. This fabric crosses your upper back then dips low to secure at your hips with a hook-and-loop fastener. This protective garment's design rests the weight securely at your waist, keeps the sleeves on your shoulders, and is simple to take on and off.
Chest pocket included and shoulder pads offer additional comfort.
All Bar-Ray aprons include matching Thyroid Collar.
Available in .50mm or .35mm protection with your choice of 425+ colors and patterns.
We only list the Nylons and Diamond fabric on our website, as there are the 425+ colours and patterns. Nylons and Diamonds generally are the same price but any other prints such as Fun & Fashion are custom orders and different pricing. Please download the data sheet for the colour charts and guides.

Eclipse
Eclipse is the lightest full protection lead-free apron. 10% LIGHTER than our leading apron Prestige, making it the lightest lead-free protection material. Available in 0.50mm or 0.35mm. The 0.35mm or ‘Ultra’ version is nominally 30% lighter than the 0.50mm protection.
Prestige
Prestige is lead free the second lightest weight protection material. It is exclusively available in Australia through Compete Medical Australasia. A traditional protection option favoured by technicians for use during lengthy procedures. Available in either 0.35mmPbE or 0.5mmPbE protection. You won’t believe how light full protection can be. The 0.35mm or “ultra’ version is nominally 30% lighter than the 0.5mm protection
Scatter Sentry™
Scatter Sentry™ is a new, innovative, high performance, lightweight bi-layer of radiation protection material. It provides optimal protection from scatter radiation and fluorescence during fluoroscopic procedures.
StarLite
StarLite is a lead free, lightweight protective material suited for use in lengthly medical procedures as it maintains the weight advantage over a traditional protective material that contains Lead. Starlite is also available in either 0.35mmPbE or 0.5mmPbE protection. The 0.35mm or “ultra’ version is nominally 30% lighter than the 0.5mm protection.
TrueLite
TrueLite is the first generation of lightweight protective materials, another innovation from Bar-Ray more than 10 years ago. TrueLite, a traditional option containing a mixture of lead and lead-free material, bears a weight range between Cost Cruncher and Starlite options. Truelite is available in 0.35mmPbE & 0.5mmPbE protection. The 0.35mm or “ultra’ version is nominally 30% lighter than the 0.5mm protection.
Radiation Protection Garment Standards, Guidelines and Regulations
Radiation protection is about protecting you and your staff, meeting OHS/WHS, TGA and Australian and New Zealand Standards. Whilst there are some cheaper products on the market, not all of them meet all of those standards. We pride ourselves on selecting products that do meet all the standards. If you are not sure, just ask us.
All aprons and gowns sold by ARO Systems contain TGA approval and Australian and New Zealand Standards.
TGA is about protecting you and your team by making sure the items you purchase are reaching the required standard within the industry.
The overarching body for radiation protection is ARPANSA (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency). They have guidance on a number of topics on their website.
Regarding Aprons, all products we have a compliant with AS/NZS 4543.3:2000 (which is based on IEC 61331-3:1998) and have TGA, after all, its about protecting you and your patients.
The Bar-Ray range have also been tested both in Australia and the USA by multiple institutions and meet and exceed all required standards and are what we consider to be some of the best products in the market.
